The Dark Skies experience is a key through-line in the Sound, Light and Frequency universe. Created by Bryce Zabel and Brent Friedman, 20 hours of dramatic programming were produced and aired in 1996-1997. While it was based in the 1960s, the series invoked many real UFO events from the Betty and Barney Hill abduction to the Soccoro landing, and ufological concepts like experiencers, cattle mutilations, military abductions, bloodlines, grays, etc.
In 1975, Bryce was still in college, but worked as a primary news reporter and anchor for the counter-culture FM station, KZEL, in Eugene, Oregon. He covered the Walton case for his audience and realized how powerful the UFO narrative had become in the United States.
In 1981, Bryce was working as an investigative reporter for the PBS affiliate in Los Angeles, KCET. This was the same place that Carl Sagan had produced his Cosmos series. On the night of the Voyager II encounter with Saturn, Bryce interviewed Sagan live in a special and, that same night, debated UFOs with the esteemed scientist in the station parking lot.
