THE FORMULA REVEAL IS
COMING SEPTEMBER 17TH
JC from the Office of Naval Intelligence scribbled this "formula" on the corner of an ATM deposit envelope. He said to keep it in a safe-deposit box for 10-15 years so Bryce and Brent would "know he was for real," in case they didn't make a deal.
He called it Sound, Light, and Frequency: Secrets of the Universe. Watch Episode #1

This pilot represents the original vision of "Dark Skies" by Bryce Zabel and Brent V. Friedman. It included established ufology lore surrounding the Men in Black and Majestic-12. Unfortunately, Sony was about to release their own "Men in Black" movie, which led to accusations of plagiarism, threats of legal action, and a laundry list of "non-negotiable" demands to change the pilot or NBC would cancel the show and "burn the negative." Episode #14 recounts the stressful process of saving our show, though it wasn't without significant reshoots. Ironically, NBC accidentally sent our original pilot version to the international buyers. That's why you can see both pilots on the official DVD release.
Thanks to the late, great NBC Studio Head, Don Ohlmeyer (who had purchased our show in the first place), we were able to compromise on edits, and after 11 hours of reshoots, this is the version that aired on September 28, 1996, as the lead show on NBC's Saturday Night "Trilogy." This is also the version that aired at the premiere party, where JC offered Brent and Bryce a deal, leaving them with the mysterious "Formula."
